Chicken Licken is throwing its weight behind a bold mission to claim a Guinness World Records title by building the world’s largest rubber band ball. The story is told through the eyes of the Rubber Band Man himself, South African comedian, actor and voice artist, Tyson Ngubeni, who has spent weeks training, building and rallying the nation one band at a time.
The attempt will culminate in a live weigh-in early December, where Guinness World Records adjudicators will verify whether Chicken Licken’s Rubber Band Ball has what it takes. To claim the title, it must surpass the current record of 5251.69kg.
Known for turning everyday South African moments into something unforgettable, Chicken Licken is taking one of its most iconic assets and stretching it into a national moment. The humble rubber band, the small but mighty thing that holds your meal together, is now at the centre of a record attempt.
‘The Chicken Licken rubber band is a piece of South African pop culture. It holds our meals together, and now it could help hold a world record,’ said Xolisa Dyeshana, Chief Creative Officer at Joe Public. ‘We didn’t want to just make an ad about a big rubber band ball; we wanted to actually build one. South Africans are encouraged to donate their bands and come out in their numbers to back the Rubber Band Man and show the world what Mzansi can do when it bands together.
