Legends of the industry teamed up with the new breed of black advertisers at the launch of the Black Agencies Network Association (BANA). The launch was held at the Industrial Development Centre in Sandton on 4 August 2022, where the BANA promised to drive transformation in the advertising industry.

Industry pioneers in attendance included Happy Ntshingila, Reuel Khoza, Peter Vundla, Dennis Mashabela, Beatrice Kubheka, Peter Vundla, Letepe Maisela, Dimape Serenyane, Jannie Ngwale, Nkwenkwe Nkomo, Beatrice Qubeka, Horace Mpanza, Madala Mphahlele, Nimrod Mkele, Gary Morolo, Tholi Ngwenya and Eric Mafuna.

Boitumelo Mohube, the CEO of BANA, shared her sentiments as a black woman in the industry, ‘I was a huge fan of the television drama Generations, and Aus’ Karabo played a huge role in influencing us, the 1980’s babies, the born-frees. Yes, there were a lot of great productions at that time but, for us born in that era, it was a complete mind flip to see a women represented in that manner, boldly walking into boardrooms and owning them without shame. I became the woman of that generation, who would have the courage to start a business in a male dominated environment, take up space and be the Karabo of my Generation and create the magic,’

Among the honourable guests was the Deputy Minister of the Presidency, Thembi Siweya, who addressed the audience about the efforts made by government to drive transformation.
